| Here I sit, boldly perusing the internets in a darkened Holiday Inn
lobby area where at any moment some masked stranger could appear from
lurking behind a large potted fig tree. I have little fear. This is my
new life, at least for the time being. Also, back in the room is a six
year old child who doesn't want to sleep beside me. Rejection, how I
feel it.
After a day of entertaining small children, the mother of them took me
and said children 2 hours away to Grand Island, NE where we checked
into our "grand" room complete with sink and toilet..and the rest.
While the mother attends a conference tomorrow and Thursday morning, I
am supposed to keep the boys occupied doing things like eating,
swimming, and well, I really have no idea. Did I mention we have no
vehicle? :) So, with that in mind, I'm sure there is a booming taxi
industry in this town (the size of Hutchinson) that will kindly take us
to the mall or some equally exciting location for small children.
With this in mind, I shall share with you my thoughts on "mothering" and my experience in general, in no particular order.
1. I want to be a mother someday. I think.
2. Everyone has their moments when they declare, "I'm not ready for children!" I had that epiphany about 3 days ago.
3. I think I finally get a glimpse of what it means to "pick your battles." I just wish I knew which ones to pick. :)
4. I'm glad my mothering ends at 5 pm usually. May God help all you full-timers out there.
5. Thursdays seem to be generally not-so-good days. I'm guessing that
Thursdays were traditionally marked for sprouting gray hairs.
6. Kids are really cute when they wake up. The cuteness doesn't last a real long time, but its nice while it lasts.
7. The family I work for is very kind. Last night we had a steak dinner and roasted smores. I liked it.
8. I'm so glad that my chosen vocation does not directly involve
children. I just don't think I'm cut out for other peoples' kids
anymore.
9. I enjoy children's imaginations. I also enjoy tackling them. (children, not their imaginations)
10. I love the satisfaction that comes after successfully creating a rocket out of foam paper, toilet paper rolls, and glue.
11. I enjoy doing domestic things.
12. I only have 2.5 weeks left. I'm fine with that.
13. Nebraska sunsets are fabulous.
So, while I am grateful for the opportunity to do this "thing" called
nannying, I'm totally great with getting on to other things. I have had
the chance to spend lots of quality alone time. While I have watched
numerous episodes of "flip that house" and "plastic surgery: before and
after," I have also had the time to take some lovely walks, read, and
journal.
This is my life.
Since starting this post, I moved into the front desk lobby which is
well lit and equipped with chatty clerks discussing various guestal
issues. Goodnight to you. And my this satiate your desires for a real
Cheri Miller post.

| Dear everyone:
So this is a plea for assistance in the conference travelling
department mostly directed at those in the Kansas or perhaps even the
Iowa area. I am supposed to be at conference this year and have some
interesting time issues to work around. I have off half of Thursday
till the rest of the weekend. For those of you wondering, I am
stationed in NE.
Is there anyone travelling on Thursday? More specifically anyone
travelling a little later in the day that could meet me in Des Moines
probably around 4-4:30 ish to drive the rest of the way in? Using
MapQuest, technically, it is faster to cruise I-80 to IN. I would need
to come back on Sunday I think.
Here are the perks:
About 5 hours into your trip when you are just getting sick of those
riding along with you, you might start seeing signs for Des Moines,
Iowa and you could start anticipating a new face/voice in the car.
After 6 hours, yes, you could see me in all my glory. You might even
start getting reimbursed for some gas moneys. (wohoo) unless of course
we take my car...
If that isn't enough to convince you to carpool with me, give me a call
and we can negotiate. If anyone in Iowa sees this and isn't leaving
until thursday night, I could perhaps drive a little further to meet up
with you and the same perks could apply. :)
I'm not sure I could consider myself desperate yet, but I might
be getting there. Thank you xanga for your help in getting the word
out. Without you, I might have to use facebook, and most church people
from kansas don't follow that "code."

Yes i believe it does

Friends, Jesus is good locating things. Unless its something you need
right away like feminine hygiene products or underwear because you lost
either of them, wait a while before purchasing a replacement.
And that's my thought for the day.

| I am missing my sony camera. I am sad. If anyone has spotted it in the
vicinity of home, let me know. Its in a black samsonite case. The last
time I think I saw it was on Good Friday when we were making our CSI
movie. So, please keep your eyes peeled.
Oh.and besides that, life is going fairly well. I took the day off
today and attended several tennis matches. It was wonderfully relaxing.
Short and to the point,
Cheri
